Christmas decorations are put up earlier each year, and it is as if Halloween finishes, and Christmas begins; as homes are decorated with garlands, wreaths, candles, and fairy lights. If you have not yet started or are worried that your decorations are not quite right (and keep comparing them to all those beautiful homes on Instagram); fear not as Alle Interiors are here to help. Here are our Top 10 Christmas decorating ideas for your home; so, you are ready for any guests that may visit over the festive period.
1. Create a beautiful entrance to your home
First impressions really do count and welcoming your guests with a stunning Christmas wreath on the door is a wonderful place to start. There is one for every budget in the shops or have some festive fun and make your own at a wreath workshop. If you want to go all out, try adding seasonal shrubs around your entrance, mini-Christmas trees, or add extra foliage around the door frame to create a welcoming entrance.
2. Choose a colour scheme that gives you joy
When it comes to colour schemes, some people always keep their colour scheme the same each time, and others change it year on year. Try creating a mood board that has three core colours that complement each other, e.g. gold, red and glass, or forest green, silver, and white and use this as your base. On the flip side, Christmas is all about family and making memories, and if you have a mix of ornaments that have been handed down or collected over the years, they will be sentimental so, just mix them in with new ones to create your own scheme.
3. Add a Christmas tree skirt
The living room tends to be the focal point of Christmas décor, and it can help to have a focal point such as a fireplace, but if not make your Christmas tree the main feature of the room. Whether you have a real tree or an artificial one, there are many kinds of tree skirts to choose from such as fleece that looks like snow, decorative metal material, or rustic woven basket style versions and they really do finish your tree off.
4. Add festive throws and pillows to any room
There are no rules when it comes to festive décor, so try adding throws to your sofas, beds, chairs, and hallway to give a cosy feel. Or switch any throws you already have for seasonal versions e.g. in traditional Christmas colours (red, white, or green), and even invest in some Christmas bedding for your bedroom and the guest room to fully embrace the festive season. Kids love nothing more than having their Christmas bedding on, as it makes it feel even more special and snuggly, especially fluffy Christmas bedding!
5. Bring in natural decor for a rustic look
If you decorated your home for Autumn, do not just put away all the natural décor but use it to continue the rustic theme. Use any acorns, pinecones, and twigs that you already have, and then add holly along with a few dried orange slices if you prefer some colour. You could thread them onto some string and hang them on a door frame, a window frame, up against a wall or to dress mantlepieces or shelves adding candles to give it a relaxed vibe.
6. Decorate your dining chairs with decorative touches
Decorating your table for Christmas dinner is something most people do, whether you theme it or create a stunning centrepiece, but have you considered decorating your chairs by adding mini wreaths or even simple bows to the back?
7. Fill a tray with Christmas décor
This is a lovely idea which you can change with the seasons. Choose a natural woven or rustic wooden tray, and then add a small vase to it, along with a candle and some other décor. Then add a spray of holly or eucalyptus leaves in the vase, a seasonal candle, pine cones, and a mini-Christmas tree or a tiny light up house. The tray and its decor can really add a minimalist but stylish touch.
8. Fill lanterns with candles or lights
Lanterns with candles in always look stunning in the winter months and can look cosy and add a chilled atmosphere to a room. Alternatively, get an oversized lantern and fill it with baubles and LED fairy lights to really give the wow factor, and decorate the outside with ribbon or tinsel and faux foliage.
10. Add beauty with bows
Bows are a traditional décor as well as being really on trend now and are so easy to add to a Christmas theme. You can either buy them premade or just purchase a roll of ribbon and tie them yourself. They are great as a way of tying a colour scheme together with ribbon in the same shade as your décor or furnishings.

Nowadays anything goes, but often keeping it natural and rustic can really add a touch of style, and never goes out of fashion. Just add a subtle pop of colour that you change each year. The key thing to remember is to just have fun and decorate your mantel, adorn your stairway with garlands and swap your everyday doormat for a festive one to welcome guests.
