The research, by LABC Warranty, which provides warranties for new-build homes, found that the average living room in a house built since 2010 was 17.1 square metres (184 sq ft), compared with 24.9 sq m (268 sq ft) in the 1970s. This is therefore, a 32% reduction and means living room space has shrunk to levels last seen over 80 years ago.

However, Townhouses are generally designed with the living room on the first floor; so, not only do you need to get any furniture through the front door, but you also have to negotiate the stairs and any tight angles. Terraced houses can also prove challenging if they have no side access or alternatively you may live in a flat with space and access both a big issue.
