Colour of the Year ‘Mocha Mousse’

If ever there was a colour to give you a warm cosy feeling during the winter months, it’s Pantone’s 2025 colour of the year – Mocha Mousse (PANTONE 17-1230).  Announced on the 5th of December 2024, by the Pantone Color Institute, who are best known for their colour matching system, it expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence and suggests comfort and the warming delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee. But just what is the meaning behind it and how can you reflect it in the interior design of your home?

The start of a new year is when we reflect on previous years whilst looking ahead to the new year and the hope of what it will bring. With it being nearly 5 years since the start of the Covid Pandemic, we have seen a mix of very different Pantone colours with Peach Fuzz in 2024, Viva Magenta (2023), Veri Peri (2022), Pebble grey and hazard-warning yellow (2021 joint winner) and a muted evening blue in 2020.  With the pandemic now firmly behind us, 2025 marks the introduction of a more subtle shade in Mocha Mousse with the world ready to embrace a softer, quieter joy.

“For Pantone Colour of the Year 2025, we look to a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial and comforting warmth extends further into our desire for comfort, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others.” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director Pantone Color Institute.

Pantone predicts that Mocha Mousse will make a big statement in the fashion, beauty, home decor and design industries as they celebrate the 26th anniversary of Pantone’s Colour of the Year.

How can I use Mocha Mousse in my home?
Mocha Mousse has very rich undertones, so it’s ideal to ‍create ‌a chic and cosy space. It works wonders as a ‌base or accent, as it exudes warmth and‌ sophistication. Start by selecting a neutral background such as whites, creams, or soft beiges, then try layering Mocha Mousse in through your furnishings and decorative elements. Adding throws or cushions in the shade will instantly bring‍ comfort to‍ your living‌ room or choose art pieces or framed prints which use the colour to create a focal point. Alternatively, try painting an accent wall in Mocha Mousse to draw attention and add‌ depth.

Adding textures to your interior that complement Mocha‌ Mousse ‍can create a harmonious setting – think wood, leather, and textiles. Choose a ‌sofa or ottoman upholstered in the tone‌ for a contemporary look or add drapes ‍in Mocha Mousse to ‌enhance the ‌cosiness of your space.

Which other colours are on trend for 2024?
Trend forecasters are predicting that 2025 will move away from stark whites, dated greys, and cool neutrals and go towards layered colours, with electric brights, ravishing rubies, and new neutrals. People are choosing comforting, soothing colours, that provide warmth and serenity and can be incorporated into both contemporary and traditional homes. Using colour in your home is always down to personal taste and style, and you never need to follow a trend, but Alle Interiors are here to help with the eight colour trends that will be everywhere in 2025: –

Dessert Browns – as we move away from cooler grey interiors; there is a move towards dessert-inspired hues from chocolate and coffee to caramel and toffee, as revealed with Mocha Mousse. The earthy nature of brown shades makes them a perfect backdrop to use alongside natural materials including wicker, rattan, warm woods, and stone finishes.

Honeyed Neutrals – these are replacing cool stark whites and have started to play an essential role in balancing bold accents whilst adding warmth to a room. They bring a nature inspired balance to a room with the grounding and serene qualities of the colours.

Otherworldly Blues – Over the past few years, we have seen a surge in midtone blues, but now it’s the turn of deeper blue shades which meet the current demand for classic yet vibrant hues that consumers are craving in homes.

Artist’s Ochre – expect to see more mustard and earthy-rich yellows popping up in interiors, as people look towards tones that deliver comfort and relief. These earthy yellows work perfectly on the walls of a study or wellness room and can also add a touch of luxury to homes.

Bold Ebony – 2025 will see rich hues of ebony and black olive used as accents within a room, as they help ground a brighter and lighter palette whilst adding depth to give a sense of elegance.

Ruby – Stunning rubies and nostalgic reds will play a significant role in 2025, as colour forecasters predict that consumers will move towards historical colours that conjure up nostalgia and familiarity in their homes.

Striking Plum – 2025 will see a surge in the popularity of earthy purples, including aubergine, plum, and jam as these vibrant shades bring a sense of warmth and energy to interiors, while still offering a connection to the natural world.

Candied Tones – 2025 is all about candy-coloured accents, and these fun, bright, playful tones can be used as pops of colour in your interiors.

However, you feel you want to use Mocha Mousse or one of the colour trends for 2025 in your home, don’t be scared as interior design is all about experimenting and being brave with your design choices.
